Doraku Sushi opened early this year in the heart of Waikiki which is the sister restaurant to one in Miami and the South Beach flair is reflected in the stylish décor, music and the cuisine.
The tempting menu starts with hot and cold dishes ($6.50-$17.50) including, Ahi Tuna with Asian Salsa seared Hawaiian tuna, served with our Asian Caribbean garlic ponzu sauce drizzled with olive oil, as well as our Seafood Ceviche consisting of a mixture of seafood’s shrimp, white fish, tako, red clams marinated in a Peruvian citrus spicy sauce. Hot items include Chilean Seabass Nambanzuke Crispy Seabass marinated in Yuzu Chili Ponzu and served with Quick Pickled Vegetables and topped with Cilantro. Salads ($6.95 - $13.50) can double as starters or entrees. Our most popular is our New Style Tuna Sashimi Salad - Juilienne Daikon Radish and Sweet Onions with Seasoned Wakame, Crispy Garlic Chips, and Garlic Aioli.
Doraku serves only the freshest, top grade sushi and sashimi. More than 24 varieties of fish and seafood are available by the pair ($5-$10, MP) and include tuna, salmon, grouper, mackerel, fresh watereel, sea urchin, octopus, shrimp, squid, scallop, queen conch, and red snapper, to name a few.
Specialty Maki Rolls from ($4-$16.50) consist of the Emperor roll Tuna, Salmon, Crab, Shrimp, Scallop and Avocado rolled together, crusted in Panko Breadcrumbs and topped with Spicy Garlic Aioli and Sweet Chili Soy; Doraku roll lobster, kanikama, and cream cheese, tempura fried, served with red and black caviar, scallion, and spicy cream sauce.
Doraku not only offers a full bar and wine, but specializes in saké, hand selecting more than 25 of the finest sakés available. Served in flights (four selection including The Emperor, Shogun, Geisha and Samurai), by the bottle, by the 5 oz glass known as a masu and with a 16 oz bamboo pitcher- appeals to the novice and the sake-ophile. Doraku celebrates the making, serving and drinking of the beverage by creating several cocktails mixed with fruits and other liquors, and offers infused saké with pineapple and mango.
Upon entering Doraku Sushi, a modern, peaceful aesthetic captivates the bar and lounge area. The dining area resembles an authentic Japanese teahouse complete with textured wall to ceiling coverings, made from natural woven elements. Banquettes covered with bright floral orange and earthy green fabric enhanced by large, soft pillows, are enclosed slightly with half curtains hanging from bamboo to create, intimate, serene spaces. The bottle area behind the bar is illuminated. The ceiling lights showcase bottles on display against a backdrop of a tiny mosaic mirror glass. Across from the bar a 100 year old, hand carved, 15 foot hardwood communal table resides which is next to the DJ booth. A natural dark wood floor extends throughout the bar area. Designed by New York architectChris Smith, Doraku features artifacts from THE LATE, Rocky Aoki’s (Benihana founder) private Japanese and Asian art collection, including the stone carved sculpture of a walking villager.
